Chicken Meat May Contain Cancer-causing Arsenic, FDA Admits

Inorganic arsenic, which is believed to cause cancer, may actually be in chicken meat, says FDA, as reported by the Associated Press. FDA knew it all along but it is only now that they admitted that the ones sold in the supermarket are positive to arsenic. Arsenic, when taken with high dosages can really kill people.

The true concern is the fact that the origins of this toxic chemical is added to the chicken meat that we take in. It is intentionally injected to 70% chicken in order to boost growth. The effect of this is that the chicken will have healthy color and will have firmer and packed meat.

According to FDA studies, 50% of the chickens tested were positive for the toxic chemical inside their livers.

In other news, Pfizer had already halted their Roxarsone production, as this drug is rich with toxic arsenic that is employed to chicken feeds. Roxarsne makes the meat seem fatter and emit healthier pinkish color. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Pfizer said: ìThe agency said it recently conducted a study of 100 broiler chickens that detected inorganic arsenic at higher levels in the livers of chickens treated with 3-Nitro compared with untreated chickens Ö Pfizer said sale of 3-Nitro would be stopped by early July in order to allow animal producers to transition to other treatments.î

While Pfizer has recalled their products from all stores across the US, FDA still says there is a tolerable amount of arsenic that can be used which may not harm our bodies. While the world clearly gets blindsided by this fact, the production industry wouldn't want us to know about the truth regarding arsenic and its harmful effects on human health. Along with lead and mercury, it affects fetuses and children according to University of South Carolina Department of Environmental Health Services reports.

Additionally, experts say that arsenic is quadruple times as dangerous as mercury. In a study released by the American Medical Association, people consuming huge amounts of rice containing arsenic can cause changes in their cells that can lead to cancer. A person can have Bowen disease or squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma on the skin and cancers of some internal organs. It can affect the lungs, liver, bladder and kidneys.

However, FDA still claims food containing arsenic can be safe to eat. What's ironic is that they prohibit people from drinking elderberry juice - that sounds a bit fishy, right?
