1. Water Hemlock (Cicuta Maculata)
Water hemlock is a large wildflower from the carrot family and it’s similar to Queen Anne’s lace by appearance. This plants looks like parsnips or celery. It contains deadly cictutoxin which is mostly concentrated in its roots and its consequences are felt immediately after exposure.
The symptoms of water hemlock poisoning are nausea, abdominal cramps, painful convulsion, and the most fatal cases result in death.
2. Deadly Nightshade (Atropa belladonna)
This plant has sweet berries that lures children and unwitting adults consume them. It plant contains atropine and scopolamine in its stems leaves, berries, and roots which causes paralysis in the body muscles, including the heart. Furthermore, physical contact with the leaves can also contribute to skin irritation.
3. White Snakeroot (Ageratina Altissima)
White snakeroot is native to North America. This plant contains trematol, a toxic alcohol which can be passed to people by animal products.
The symptoms of trematol poisoning are nausea, appetite loss, acidic blood, abdominal discomfort and can also be fatal. Due to the highly poisonous substance, white snakeroot is being removed from animal pastures.
4. Castor Bean (Ricinus Communis)
This plant is usually grown as an ornamental plant due to its attractive looks and it’s native to Africa. You’ve probably heard about castor oil, right? The castor oil is produced from processed seeds, but before processing the beans contain a poison called ricin which is extremely deadly even in very small amounts. You should be very careful, because just one or two seeds are enough to kill a child while just eight seeds can easily kill an adult person.
Ricin prevents the synthesis of proteins within cells and can cause severe vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, and lead to death.
5. Rosary Pea (Abrus Precatorius)
Rosary peas grow in tropical areas. They are used in prayer rosaries and jewelry. Its intact seed are not poisonous, but the scratched, broken or chewed ones can be deadly. Only 3 micrograms are enough to kill an adult.
6. Oleander (Nerium oleander)
Oleander is commonly grown as a hedge and ornamental. It is deadly and contains lethal cardiac glycosides that are known as neriine and oleandrin. The skin can be irritated if you come in direct contact with the leaves and sap. You can become ill if you eat honey from bees that visited this plant. The cases of oleander poisoning are rare due to the plant being very bitter and it quickly deters anyone sampling the vegetation.
The symptoms of consumed oleander are vomiting, diarrhea, coma, erratic pulse, seizures, and death.
7. Tobacco (NicotianaTabacum)
Tobacco is the most commercial plant in the world. It is used to produce cigars and cigarettes, and its leaves can also be chewed. However, all of tobacco’s parts, including the leaves, contain nicotine and abanasine, toxic alkaloids which are fatal when ingested. But, even besides the fact that it’s a well-known cardiac poison, nicotine is consumed by a lot of people, which is why tobacco is one of the most dangerous plants on the planet, killing over 5 million people a year.
Angel trumpet is a native South American plant and contains three powerful toxins which include atropine, hyoscyamine and scopolamine, these toxins have mind altering properties. Its deadly properties are not so deadly on its own but more when it’s used as a biological weapon by people. It has the power to make its victims unaware of what they are doing but still completely conscious. In the documentary there were a number of horrifying stories about people who were taken advantage of under the effect of this plant.
9. Spurge Laurel
This plant contains powerful biocides that cause irritation and blistering, when plant is cutted. But if berries are consumed it cause major internal bleeding and organ failure and death after several hours.
10. Death Camas
Death Camas is one of the most toxic plants in the world. It can be distinguished from edible camas by its moderately different color. Its distinction is a matter of survival if anyone tries Camas. Ingestion of small amounts can result in quick death through organ failure and blood disturbance.
